M 8 - Lagoon Nebula
This is Messier 8 - aka The Lagoon Nebula (well, and a bunch of other names).. This is in the constellation Sagittarius which is low in the southern sky right now. It was so low in my horizon, so I was only able to capture 7 x 420 second exposures - 35 minutes.
It is located about 4000-6000 light years from us, that means the light I was capturing left the nebula sometime around or before -2000 BC.... It is about 3 times the width of the full moon (90' x 40'). The moon is is roughly 30’ x 30’.
